We Know a Place Has Elder Care Advisors Throughout California

The free elder care referral service has counselors across the state of California. Their passion is helping families understand their elder care options, answering questions such as If their parent needs to go into a nursing home or assisted living

Finding a place for a parent or grandparent to live when they can?t live alone will be one of the most important decisions you may ever have to make.

However, it may also be one of the most difficult decisions you can make, even more so if you are under a lot of stress and dealing with financial limitations. This is the reason "We Know a Place" was started and keeps on growing every year. Since 2010, the number of clients has spiked 75%.

The free elder care referral service has counselors across the state of California. Their passion is helping families understand their elder care options, answering questions such as If their parent needs to go into a nursing home, assisted living or independent living home? What sorts and types of questions should they be asking the facilities? What might they expect to pay a month for these services?

"Most caregivers of loved ones we speak with on a daily basis are overwhelmed with having to deal with medical terminology and care needs, on top of their own work and family responsibilities; they now are dealing with the following step of trying to assess the type and level of care that would be best. We Know a Place provides that guidance. "The majority of my day is spent consulting, educating and guiding people," said Celeste Harriman an Advisor with We Know a Place for Elder Care San Diego.

Celeste helps educate by explaining the differences among the several care types: Assisted Living is for seniors needing constant around-the-clock care and all three meals provided for. This is a wonderful option for ones needing help bathing and help managing their medication regime. This will run you between $2,400 and $6,500 a month.

For ones who can still take care of themselves and drive, Independent Living is for them. It?s a great option for seniors who can?t handle the care of their home and is looking to down-size. It also gives them a number of meals and activities to choose from. The cost runs about $1,500 and $3,200 per month.
In Home Care is for elders having a hard time moving out of their home but needs somebody to clean, cook, help them bathe, run errands and manage their medications. Based upon where you live, you may be able to have a portion of the care covered by the state.

Skilled Nursing or Nursing Homes are for individuals with a high level of care 24 hours a day. It is the most common method of elder care for people who are in a wheelchair, disabled, or on dialysis. The cost is typically $5,500 per month or above.

Those who may be eligible for Medicaid must be willing to wait 45-60 days for an approval and choices being limited. However, most Nursing Homes accept it if you are willing to share a room with another. We Know a Place will help you determine what kind of care facility or community is best for your parent. An advisor will contact their network of facilities and set up several tours by appointment. Your Advisor will also give you a list of senior care providers in your desired location and together will determine who will be taking care of your parent, what their care facility background check is like and most importantly, whether you feel comfortable using them.
